How did the course project help your learning process? How did you feel about working in a team?

Even though the course project is never discussed in class nor presented as a PPT presentation, the process of cooperation indirectly forced us to go through the examinations, procedures, and evaluations done on a pediatric patient. That was helpful to cover a case in its entirety, rather than only observing or performing a single procedure on a kid in the Children's Dental Center. The fact that exact number of points are given for each section enables us to all minimally complete the project satisfactorily without the extra stress of a "project."

I like that the project tends to integrate the various aspects of pediatric dentistry into one case, something that better prepares us for clinic.

I personally liked the course project. It was a cumulative review of things we have learned in pediatric dentistry courses thus far. It also allowed us to get together as a group and decide on how we would go about making a powerpoint presentation and figuring out the logistics of how to break it up. Very helpful.

I thought the group project was a unique way of summarizing our entire pediatric experience so far. This includes techniques we learned in pre-clinical pedo lab as well as crucial treatment planning steps we practiced during the last pedo course.

The overview of all the steps involved in each procedure was also important so that we could recall key characteristics which can only benefit us later during our pedo rotations. In all, this project allowed us to explore various treatment options with our classmates and allowed for productive discussion to reach a mutual agreement beneficial to the patient as well as to remind us of important clinical techniques.

I liked the pedo project. At first, I didn't understand the point of the project (I haven't had block yet) until I began creating this fictitious pt in my head. I just imagined the pt's tx plan and the pt's attitudes toward going to the dentist. Then, I started putting everything together. I have the AAPD reference manual so that really helped me put together the soap notes since the manual has explanations and guidelines. I would recommend that students read that for a better understanding of what should be done in the pedo clinic since the guidelines are so specific. I tried using the Pinkham text but it wasn't very specific. Tina Duong #125
